Sneaking veggies into drinks is nothing new. Spinach, kale, and beets are fairly common smoothie ingredients at this point — even in cups that otherwise taste like dessert.
But one food blogger recently took veggie-fying drinks to a new level with her recipe for frozen hot chocolate. Sarah Britton of My New Roots, a plant-based food blog, recently published a recipe that rivals Serendipity 3's famous frozen hot cocoa. And uses only FOUR ingredients! Yep, just four.
And while none of them are really what you'd expect to go into this sweet treat (it's healthy AF), one in particular caught our attention: frozen cauliflower.
Apparently, the white stalk is pretty tasteless when blended with raw cacao powder, dates, ice, and milk, but gives the shake a creamy, frothy texture. You can use store-bought frozen cauliflower, or chop up a head of fresh cauli and freeze it overnight before tossing it into your blender.
If you like your frozen hot cocoa extra thick, try freezing oat or nut milk in ice cube trays to use in place of regular milk. The recipe also recommends playing with toppings, such as cacao nibs or coconut cream "whipped cream."
