People obviously had very strong opinions.

A baker in Oakland, California didn't think much would happen when she posted a picture of her latest cake on . The red and black confection bore the phrase "Kill Nazis," but she had posted one a week prior that read "Resist Fascism" without causing a stir.

Once the cake was on Facebook, it garnered a ton of reactions — both positive and negative. The baker, Ashley Shotwell, told SF Gate her page received more than 200 negative reviews, some claiming they had purchased cakes from Shotwell filled with maggots.

Others reported negative experiences that supposedly occurred within her store, though she doesn't actually have a storefront. Shotwell said she believes alt-right groups spread the video of her creating the cake and were behind the numerous one-star reviews.

After the post – which has since been taken down from Facebook – went viral, many reviews were flagged and taken down, with more than 1,200 five-star ratings replacing them. Before the incident, her page had about 20 reviews, SF Gate reports.

A customer had requested the "Kill Nazis" cake after seeing the Fascism one on . Shotwell said she didn't have a problem fulfilling an order for a dessert that took "a stance against fascist ideals," though says she may suggest a less severe phrase, like "Punch Nazis," in the future.

According to her post, the original "Resist Fascism" cake was ordered prior to the protests and violence in Charlottesville earlier this month.
